Terry Strawser

"I enjoy working with images of places, buildings and objects that have a rustic, worn or historic feeling.  I work realistically, trying to bring the sense of age through the medium I’m working in.  I feel satisfied when I think my style gives the same feeling as my subjects.”

From the rustic beauty of his native West Virginia to historic buildings and scenes along the eastern seaboard, my watercolor painting and original hand-colored etchings reflect my life and memories.  I generally use soft colors and gentle lines to match the style of the subject matter.

I have been involved with color all his life.  With a university major in biology and a minor in chemistry, I began my working career in the cosmetic industry.  My technical and aesthetic fascination with color led to painting and eventually to producing hand-colored etchings.  My etchings are usually hand-colored and many are created with multiple plates.  All of his plates are prepared by acid etching in either copper or zinc, then hand-rubbed the inked plate, and printed on 100% rag paper.  Each print is then hand-colored with watercolor or gouache, making every etching an original.

I was published in the Artist of the Carolinas Volume I and my artwork has won juried competitions in North Carolina.  I have participated in many juried shows throughout the Southeast and currently displays in several galleries in the Myrtle Beach, SC area.  I have been accepted and will be displaying in ArtFields, 2017 in Lake City, SC.
